The D-Mark system has been produced in accordance with the latest guidance notes from Health & Safety - HS/G-33 - Health & Safety in Roof Work 1998 -
D-Mark pedestals have a hollow base which makes them extreamely light to transport and easy to carry to the roof. When on site, stability is obtained by filling with sand, chippings etc. The D-Mark System should be erected in a position adequate to ensure that people working within the demarcated area cannot fall from the edge of the roof. In most circumstances a distance of 2 meters from the edge of the roof should be sufficient. This will depend on the geometry of the roof and may need to be increased. Where this method is used on roofs with a slight slope it may be necessary to prevent materials rolling away, beyond the 'safe' area.
When used on roofs, this type of barrier is acceptable on where there is a high level of supervision and discipline to ensure that people do not go beyond the demarcated area. Where such supervision is not available, Edge Shield free - standing guard rail should be employed. There should be no unprotected holes, breaks or fragile material, within the 'safe' area.
To comply with the HS/G-33 requirement that "barriers should be sufficiently durable and immediately obvious to all," the D-Mark System, including the multi-coloured chain, is manufactured throughout from plastic materials.
Installation of the system is quick and easy, with pedestals positioned not more than 3 metres apart and the chain attached to indicate a safe working area together with nominated entry and exit points where appropriate
